After many weeks, the National Park Service finally finished replacing three bridges on the Mount Vernon Trail today. All three are located just south of the Dyke Marsh bridge and north of Northdown Road. The workers did a nice job and trail users will be happy that they no longer have to deal with two detours.
Terrific job
Couldn’t even find a place to park yesterday to access the Mount Vernon trail north of the airport.
That’s pretty typical on nice weekends. Park instead at the marinas. There’s one on the southbound side of the Parkway between the Memorial and 14th Street bridges. A trail now goes underneath the Parkway and connects to the MVT. Or go south of the airport and park in the dirt lot at Daingerfield Island marina.
